Exhibiting In the Southern Highlands Arts Trail

“An artist should not be conscious of his technique or style, it should grow naturally. I have never created art to please the critics or the public.” For me, art is an instinctive process, an exploration that evolves without forced direction. I trust in the work itself to reveal where it wants to go. My practice is not about adhering to trends or seeking approval, but about maintaining an honest dialogue between myself, the subject, and the medium. Living and working in Bundanoon, surrounded by the unique light and landscapes of the Southern Highlands, I find constant inspiration in the natural world. Whether through abstraction or representation, I aim to create works that speak quietly yet resonate deeply. I believe that true art is not about technique alone, it is about what emerges when the artist steps back and lets the work speak. Dale Saunders has followed an artist’s trail for most of his adult life. His artistic skills have been influenced by work in a variety styles and creative processes. Inspiration for land and seascapes comes from experience and observation of features and imagery in a natural setting. Time spent just looking and feeling; not photographing but capturing a sense of mood and spirit of the environment. Back in the studio Dale paints boldly from memory to create imagery in colour, shape and form that evokes the sense of place and mood of the outdoor experience. His art is interpretative and expressive.
