Exhibiting In the Southern Highlands Arts Trail

My practice is rooted in the quiet, meditative rhythm of basketry—an ancient craft that connects hand, material, and place. Working primarily with natural fibres, I am drawn to their organic textures, their irregularities, and the stories they carry from the landscapes they are gathered from. My work honours these materials and the environments they come from, acknowledging both cultural memory and contemporary ecological awareness. Basketry, for me, is not only a technique but a form of listening. I use traditional and experimental weaving methods to explore ideas of containment, resilience, and transformation. Each coil, knot, or stitch is a conversation between body and fibre—a slow, intentional process that resists the pace of mass production and invites deeper engagement. I am inspired by the knowledge embedded in Indigenous and ancestral weaving practices, as well as the way these techniques evolve when adapted to the present moment. Whether using grasses, vines, bark, or other foraged materials, my work speaks to the relationship between humans and the natural world—fragile, reciprocal, and ever-changing. Through basketry, I seek to create vessels not only of form but of memory, care, and connection.
